IAC Acoustics Noise-Lock Doors - Grace by Nia Jazz Club
The Problem
Grace by Nia, an alluring, modern-day supper club, is a welcomed addition to the Boston Seaport neighborhood. WSP Development, Big Night Entertainment and members of the Grace by Nia management team had plans to bring jazz, a speakeasy, and soul-infused food to this rapidly developing area. Located next to the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, Grace by Nia faced the unique challenge of separating sound from the adjacent movie theater so patrons of their establishment could immerse themselves in entertainment and food without distraction. In addition to this, aesthetics and keeping within the space’s chic decor was a top priority.
The Solution
High-performing acoustic doors were specified by the design team, leading the construction team to QuietStar Industries, an IAC Acoustics (IAC) Exclusive Representative, for help. QuietStar collaborated with IAC to identify the appropriate acoustic doors and customize the installation to meet the client’s specific needs. Working closely with the project architects, the teams determined the necessary door dimensions to accommodate desired architectural finishes and a unique porthole trim, while still achieving their goals for functionality and specified acoustic isolation.
To ensure a seamless entryway, QuietStar coordinated with the general contractor to frame the opening precisely, capable of supporting the weight of the acoustic doors. Additionally, the sills were recessed into the tile floor to minimize trip hazards and create a clean and inviting entrance. A turnkey installation was provided by QuietStar’s trained installation team.
The Results
IAC supplied two beautiful acoustic doors to complete the project, sized 3'6" x 7'6" and 6'0" x 7'6", both with an impressive STC-51 rating. The addition of custom glass and faux finishes enhanced the visual appeal, perfectly complementing the space’s whimsical aesthetic. By incorporating and installing an auto-operator for push-button access, Grace by Nia not only achieved superior sound control but created a captivating ambiance for an unforgettable music and dining experience.
